- 1 ½ lbs flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 large yellow onions, sliced into thick wedges
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for stir-frying
- ¼ cup light soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- ½ cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with cornstarch, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
- Prepare the Sauce: Whisk together light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, Shaoxing wine, brown sugar, beef broth, and sesame oil in a separate bowl.
- Heat the Wok: Add 1 tablespoon vegetable oil to your wok and heat until it smokes.
- Stir-Fry the Beef: Add the marinated beef to the hot wok and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- Cook the Onions: Add remaining oil, toss in onions, and stir-fry for 4-5 minutes.
- Add Aromatics: Incorporate garlic and ginger into the wok and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
- Combine and Sauce It Up: Return beef to the wok, pour sauce over, and stir continuously for 2-3 minutes until thickened.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
Notes
Marinate beef a few hours in advance if possible for deeper flavor. Feel free to swap flank steak for chicken or different vegetables.
