Description

A versatile, tender, and flavor-packed slow-cooked shredded beef that’s perfect for tacos, salads, or just on its own.


Ingredients

  • 3 to 4 lbs beef chuck roast (cut into 3 or 4 large chunks)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/3 cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Season and sear: Generously season beef chunks with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Sear in olive oil for 3 to 4 minutes per side.
  2. Load the slow cooker: Place seared beef into slow cooker.
  3. Whisk the sauce: Mix beef broth, BBQ sauce, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar, then pour over beef.
  4. Slow cook: Cover and cook on Low for 8 to 9 hours or High for 5 to 6 hours.
  5. Shred: Transfer beef to a baking sheet and shred with forks.
  6. Caramelize: Broil shredded beef with leftover juices for 4 to 5 minutes.
  7. Serve: Toss beef in natural juices and serve hot.

Notes

Make-ahead tips include preparing sauce and seasoning the beef the night before. Customize with different BBQ sauces or add heat with hot sauce.
