- 2 slices of bread (sourdough or whole grain)
- 2 slices of cheese (cheddar or Swiss)
- 3–4 ounces smoked salmon
- Butter for spreading
- Optional toppings: capers, fresh dill, lemon slices
Instructions
- Heat a skillet over medium heat until it warms up.
- Butter one side of each slice of bread generously.
- Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in the skillet.
- Layer with cheese, smoked salmon, and optional toppings.
- Top with the second slice of bread, butter-side up.
- Cook until the bottom is golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
- Flip the sandwich using a spatula and cook until the other side is golden and the cheese melts, about another 3-4 minutes.
- Remove from the skillet, let sit, cut in half, and serve warm.
Notes
For a hands-off approach, try using an air fryer or bake in an oven. Customize with different cheeses or add creamy layers for richness.
