Description

A delicious skillet dish featuring tender beef sirloin and caramelized sweet onions, infused with garlic and ginger, served with a savory sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) beef sirloin, cut into thin slices
  • 2 large sweet onions, sliced into wedges
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, white pepper, cornstarch, and water. Whisk until smooth and set aside.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef slices and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until lightly browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Add the remaining oil to the skillet. Stir in the sweet onions and cook for 4–5 minutes until softened and caramelized.
  4. Toss in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet and pour in the prepared sauce. Cook for an additional 2–3 minutes until sauce thickens.
  6. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

Slice the beef against the grain for better tenderness and avoid overcrowding the pan while cooking.
