Description
Deliciously soft and fluffy potato dinner rolls that add warmth and comfort to any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups mashed potatoes
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4–5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg (optional, for egg wash)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Stir in the yeast and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Mix in base ingredients: Add the mashed potatoes, melted butter, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until well combined.
- Incorporate flour: Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, stirring until a dough begins to form.
- Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Knead for about 5-10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- Shape the rolls: Once risen, punch down the dough gently and shape it into rolls.
- Second rise: Arrange the rolls on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let them rise again for another 30-60 minutes.
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Optional egg wash: Brush the tops with a beaten egg for a glossy finish.
- Bake to perfection: Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly: Allow the rolls to cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For make-ahead options, refrigerate shaped rolls for up to 24 hours before baking. Reheat in a warm oven for best results.
