Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, frozen
  • ⅓ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries, sliced in half
  • ⅓ cup sour cream (or Greek yogurt)
  • 1 large egg
  • Zest from 1 orange
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed orange juice
  • ⅔ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons orange juice (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the flour, sugar, and baking powder in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Grate the frozen butter into the flour mixture.
  4. Create a crumbly base by incorporating the grated butter.
  5. Combine the sour cream, heavy cream, egg, vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange juice in a separate bowl.
  6. Bring the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and fold in the cranberries gently.
  7. Shape the dough into a 1-inch thick circle and cut into 8 triangles.
  8. Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool on a wire rack and drizzle with glaze made from powdered sugar and orange juice.

Notes

For best results, keep butter frozen, avoid overmixing, and allow scones to chill before baking. They can also be made in advance and stored.
