Instructions

This recipe is easy to prepare and requires no cooking. The key to achieving the best texture is using properly softened cream cheese and finely minced ingredients.

Step 1: Soften the Cream Cheese

Remove the cream cheese from the refrigerator.

Place it in a medium mixing bowl and allow it to soften at room temperature for approximately 20–30 minutes.

The cream cheese should be soft enough to mix easily but should not be melted or warm.

Softening the cream cheese helps prevent lumps and creates a smoother finished spread.

For food safety, avoid leaving cream cheese at room temperature for extended periods.

Step 2: Prepare the Jalapeños

Wash and dry the jalapeños.

Remove the stems and slice the peppers lengthwise.

For a milder spread, remove the seeds and white membranes.

For more heat, leave some of the membranes intact.

Finely mince the jalapeños into small, even pieces.

The smaller the pieces, the more evenly the pepper flavor and heat will be distributed.

Wash your hands thoroughly after handling jalapeños.

Step 3: Prepare the Garlic

Peel the garlic cloves.

Finely mince or grate them.

Grated garlic blends particularly well into cream cheese because it creates very small pieces.

This helps distribute the garlic flavor evenly.

If you prefer a milder garlic flavor, use one large clove instead of two.

Step 4: Prepare the Fresh Herbs and Lime

Finely chop the fresh cilantro.

If using lime zest, wash and dry the lime before zesting.

Grate only the outer green portion of the peel, avoiding the bitter white pith.

Squeeze approximately 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice.

Set the prepared ingredients aside.

Step 5: Make the Creamy Honey Base

Add 2 tablespoons of honey to the softened cream cheese.

Using a hand mixer or sturdy spoon, beat until smooth and creamy.

Continue mixing until the honey is evenly incorporated.

The mixture should become slightly fluffy and glossy.

Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.

Step 6: Add the Fresh Jalapeño and Garlic

Add the minced jalapeños and garlic to the cream cheese mixture.

Stir gently until evenly distributed.

Make sure the garlic doesn’t remain concentrated in one area.

The mixture should contain small green jalapeño pieces throughout.

Step 7: Add the Lime Juice and Zest

Pour in the fresh lime juice.

Add the optional lime zest.

Stir until incorporated.

The lime juice helps balance the sweetness of the honey and the richness of the cheese.

Avoid adding excessive liquid because it can make the spread too thin.

Step 8: Add the Seasonings

Sprinkle in the garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt.

Mix thoroughly.

Taste a small amount and adjust the seasoning.

For more sweetness, add a little honey.

For additional heat, add more minced jalapeño.

For a brighter flavor, add a few drops of lime juice.

Step 9: Fold in the Fresh Cilantro

Add the finely chopped cilantro.

Fold it gently into the mixture.

The cilantro adds fresh herbal flavor and attractive green flecks.

If you prefer a milder herb flavor, reduce the amount slightly.

Step 10: Add the Optional Cheddar

If using sharp cheddar cheese, add 2 tablespoons of finely shredded cheddar.

Stir until evenly distributed.

The cheddar creates a slightly tangier, cheesier spread.

For the smoothest texture, shred the cheese finely.

Step 11: Chill the Spread

Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap or transfer the mixture to an airtight container.

Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

For a more developed flavor, chill for approximately 1–2 hours.

During refrigeration, the garlic, jalapeño, honey, lime, and seasonings blend together.

The spread will also become slightly firmer.

Step 12: Prepare for Serving

Remove the spread from the refrigerator.

If it feels too firm, allow it to sit at room temperature for approximately 10 minutes.

Stir gently to restore a smooth, spreadable texture.

Transfer it to a small serving bowl.

Use the back of a spoon to create soft swirls across the surface.

Step 13: Garnish

Drizzle approximately 1 teaspoon of honey over the top.

Arrange a few thin jalapeño slices over the spread.

Add fresh cilantro leaves.

Finish with a light sprinkle of smoked paprika.

The garnishes add color and reinforce the sweet-and-spicy flavor.

Step 14: Serve

Serve immediately with crackers, toasted bread, bagels, pita chips, or warm flatbread.

You can also use the spread as a flavorful topping for burgers, grilled chicken, or sandwiches.

Keep refrigerated when not actively serving.
