Description

Experience the vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean with this delightful Greek Chicken Gyro recipe, featuring juicy marinated chicken, fresh vegetables, and creamy tzatziki wrapped in soft pita.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, sliced thin
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Juice of 2 lemons, divided
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 English cucumber, grated and squeezed dry
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 34 fluffy pita flatbreads or naan
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 English cucumber, diced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • Shredded romaine lettuce

Instructions

  1. Begin by mixing the chicken with olive oil, half of the minced garlic, oregano, paprika, and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper, and let marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat your skillet over medium-high heat and cook the marinated chicken until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. While the chicken cooks, combine the Greek yogurt, remaining garlic, grated cucumber, dill, and a squeeze of lemon juice in another bowl.
  4. Warm the pita or naan in the skillet for about a minute on each side.
  5. Assemble your gyro by placing cooked chicken on the warm pita and topping with cherry tomatoes, diced cucumber, red onion, crumbled feta cheese, and shredded romaine lettuce.
  6. Drizzle your tzatziki sauce over the top and add a final squeeze of lemon juice before serving.

Notes

Marinate chicken overnight for deeper flavor. Customize with extra vegetables or spices as desired.
