- 1 pre-made pie crust
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 large egg yolks
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan, combine milk, heavy cream, sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Whisk until smooth.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Gradually add a small amount of the hot mixture to the yolks to temper them.
- Pour the tempered yolks back into the saucepan and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and butter until smooth.
- Pour the custard into the pre-made pie crust.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the custard is set.
- Let cool completely before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use vanilla bean instead of extract.
- Chill the pie in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving for best results.
- Top with whipped cream or fresh fruit if desired.
