Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pre-made pie crust
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, combine milk, heavy cream, sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Whisk until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Gradually add a small amount of the hot mixture to the yolks to temper them.
  5. Pour the tempered yolks back into the saucepan and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and butter until smooth.
  7. Pour the custard into the pre-made pie crust.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the custard is set.
  9. Let cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use vanilla bean instead of extract.
  • Chill the pie in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving for best results.
