A luxurious baked casserole featuring soft bread soaked in a rich custard, layered with fresh strawberries and dusted with powdered sugar.

- 1 loaf of soft bread (French or challah)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Cut the bread into cubes, about one inch in size. Layer half in the prepared baking dish.
- Layer half of the sliced strawberries on top of the bread.
- Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until smooth.
- Pour half of the egg mixture over the bread and strawberries, allowing it to soak.
- Add the remaining bread cubes and top with the rest of the sliced strawberries. Pour the remaining egg mixture on top.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Make ahead by soaking overnight. Use stale bread for best results. Customize with different berries or milk alternatives.
