Description

These Spinach Puff Pastry Trees are a delightful combination of flaky, golden pastry and a rich, creamy spinach filling. Each bite offers a satisfying crunch followed by a burst of savory flavor, making them an irresistible appetizer for any gathering.

Ingredients

  • Puff Pastry: 1 package (17.3 oz), thawed
  • Spinach: 2 cups fresh, chopped
  • Ricotta Cheese: 1 cup
  • Parmesan Cheese: 1/2 cup, grated
  • Garlic: 2 cloves, minced
  • Egg: 1, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Pepper: 1/4 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, sauté minced garlic over medium heat until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add chopped spinach and cook until wilted, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  4. In a bowl, combine the cooked spinach, ricotta, Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  5. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a floured surface and cut into tree shapes using a template or freehand.
  6. Place a spoonful of the spinach mixture on one side of each tree shape.
  7. Fold the other side over to create a pocket and seal the edges with a fork.
  8. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.

Notes

  • Make-ahead: You can prepare the spinach filling a day in advance and store it in the refrigerator.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Substitutions: Use feta cheese instead of ricotta for a tangy flavor.
