Description

Delicious and crunchy homemade Sourdough Cheez-Its made from sourdough discard and sharp cheddar.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough discard
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Water, as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough discard, shredded cheese, flour, softened butter, and spices.
  3. Stir until a cohesive dough starts to form.
  4. Add water a tablespoon at a time until the dough holds together without being sticky.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness.
  6. Cut out squares or desired shapes and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 15–20 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Allow them to cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
