Delicious and crunchy homemade Sourdough Cheez-Its made from sourdough discard and sharp cheddar.
Ingredients

- 1 cup active sourdough discard
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Water, as needed
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough discard, shredded cheese, flour, softened butter, and spices.
- Stir until a cohesive dough starts to form.
- Add water a tablespoon at a time until the dough holds together without being sticky.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness.
- Cut out squares or desired shapes and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
- Allow them to cool completely on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
Store in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
