Description

This sourdough sandwich bread features a crispy crust and a supremely soft interior, making it perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Combine the active sourdough starter, warm water, sugar, and olive oil in a large mixing bowl and mix well.
  2. Add in the flour and salt gradually, stirring until a coarse dough forms.
  3. Dust a clean surface with flour, turn the dough out, and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl; cover with a damp cloth and let it rise for 4-6 hours.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough to release air and reshape it into a loaf.
  6. Transfer the dough to a greased loaf pan and let it rise again for 1-2 hours.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Allow to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

If preparing for a special occasion, let the dough rise overnight in the fridge. You can use the air fryer if lacking an oven, adjusting cooking times as necessary.
