Description
Shakshouka is a delicious and flavorful dish made with poached eggs in a spicy tomato sauce, perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients

- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 6 large eggs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and bell pepper, and sauté until softened.
- Stir in minced garlic, cumin, paprika, and cayenne pepper, cooking for another minute.
- Add crushed tomatoes, season with salt and pepper, and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Make small wells in the sauce and crack an egg into each well.
- Cover the skillet and cook until the eggs are set to your liking.
- Garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro before serving.
Notes
- Serve with crusty bread for dipping.
- Adjust the spice level by adding more or less cayenne pepper.
- This dish can be made ahead and reheated.
