Description

The Scoop of Heaven Trifle is a delightful dessert that combines velvety layers of creamy custard, luscious whipped cream, and juicy, ripe berries. Each spoonful offers a symphony of textures, from the smoothness of the custard to the burst of freshness from the fruit, creating a heavenly experience for your taste buds.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Custard:
    • 2 cups whole milk
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 3 large egg yolks
    • 1/4 cup cornstarch
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Whipped Cream:
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Fruit Layer:
    • 2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • For Assembly:
    • 1 package of ladyfinger cookies (about 24 cookies)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and sugar over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and cornstarch until smooth.
  3. Once the milk mixture is hot but not boiling, slowly pour it into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to temper the eggs.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens (about 5-7 minutes).
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the custard cool to room temperature.
  6. In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  7. In a trifle dish, layer half of the ladyfingers at the bottom, followed by half of the custard, half of the whipped cream, and half of the mixed berries. Repeat the layers.
  8. Chill the trifle in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

  • This trifle can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
