  • For the Meat Sauce:
    • 1 lb ground beef
    • 4 slices bacon, chopped
    • 1 small onion, diced
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
    • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
    • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Cheese Mixture:
    • 2 cups ricotta cheese
    • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
    • 1 egg
    • 1 tsp garlic powder
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For Assembly:
    • 12 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
    • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
  3. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet, sautéing until translucent.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet, cooking until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  7. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  8. Layer 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the cheese mixture, half of the remaining meat sauce, and half of the bacon.
  9. Repeat the layers, finishing with noodles, remaining meat sauce, and top with cheddar cheese.
  10. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  11. Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • This lasagna can be assembled a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator before baking.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey for beef and use low-fat cheese.
