- Fruits:
- 2 cups fresh orange juice (about 4–5 oranges)
- 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
- Peppers:
- 2–3 serrano peppers, finely chopped (adjust for heat preference)
- Sweeteners:
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- Others:
- 1 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 package (1.75 oz) fruit pectin (like Sure-Jell)
Instructions
- In a large pot, combine the orange juice, grated zest, chopped serrano peppers, and apple cider vinegar. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Add the granulated sugar and brown sugar, stirring until fully dissolved. Return to a rolling boil.
- Stir in the fruit pectin and boil for an additional 1-2 minutes, until the mixture thickens slightly.
- To test for doneness, place a spoonful on a cold plate; if it holds its shape, it’s ready.
- Remove from heat and skim off any foam that forms on the surface.
- Pour the hot jelly into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace. Seal with lids.
- Process jars in a boiling water bath for 5-10 minutes to ensure preservation.
- Let cool completely before storing in a cool, dark place.
Notes
- This jelly can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 year.
- Store opened jars in the fridge and consume within 3 months.
- For a milder version, use fewer serrano peppers or substitute with bell peppers.
