  2. Stir in the wet ingredients: Add the active sourdough starter and water. Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix until a shaggy dough forms, ensuring no dry flour remains.
  3. Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 10 minutes, working it until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise at room temperature for about 240-360 minutes (4-6 hours).
  5. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to preheat at 450°F (230°C).
  6. Shape the dough: Gently turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape it into a round loaf.
  7. Second rise: If using a baking sheet, place the loaf on parchment paper and cover it for about 30 minutes.
  8. Bake the bread: Carefully place the loaf into the hot oven and bake for 30-35 minutes.
