Ingredients

- 2 cups molasses
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Combine molasses, sugar, butter, and salt in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir occasionally until the mixture reaches 250°F (the hard ball stage) on your candy thermometer.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the mixture onto a greased marble slab or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Allow the mixture to cool slightly (about 5-10 minutes) until it’s warm but manageable.
- Pull and fold the taffy with buttered hands until glossy and lighter in color.
- Shape it into a log or cut into pieces and wrap in wax paper.
Notes
Taffy lasts up to two weeks when stored properly. Experiment with flavors by substituting vanilla extract.
