Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • Green and purple food coloring
  • 1 batch of buttercream frosting
  • Edible eyes and Halloween-themed sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with liners.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the softened butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  4. Divide the batter into two bowls and add green food coloring to one and purple to the other.
  5. Using a spoon, drop alternating spoonfuls of the green and purple batter into each cupcake liner.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting.
  8. Frost with buttercream and decorate with edible eyes and sprinkles.

Notes

  • For a more intense color, add more food coloring as desired.
