Ingredients
Scale
- For the Bars:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- For the Maple Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the bars are baking, prepare the maple glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Once the bars are done, allow them to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Drizzle the maple glaze over the warm bars and let it set before slicing.
Notes
- These bars can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- For longer storage, freeze the unglazed bars for up to 2 months. Thaw and glaze before serving.
- You can substitute almond milk for buttermilk for a dairy-free option.
- For a richer flavor, consider adding chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter.
