Description

Delightful Jelly Donuts with a soft, pillowy texture and a burst of sweet fruit jam, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup fruit jam (e.g., raspberry or strawberry)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the yeast in a small bowl by combining it with warm milk, letting it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly and frothy.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl, whisking together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
  3. Combine the activated yeast mixture, eggs, and melted butter into the flour mixture, stirring well until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it. Let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Shape the donuts: Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness and cut out circles using a biscuit cutter.
  7. Fill half of the circles with a small spoonful of jam, topping with the remaining circles and sealing the edges well.
  8. Heat the oil in a deep fryer or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Fry the donuts for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  10. Drain the donuts on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Prepare the dough the night before and let it rise in the fridge overnight. Consider using an air fryer for a lighter cooking method.
