Description
Delightful Jelly Donuts with a soft, pillowy texture and a burst of sweet fruit jam, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup fruit jam (e.g., raspberry or strawberry)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Dissolve the yeast in a small bowl by combining it with warm milk, letting it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly and frothy.
- Mix the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl, whisking together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Combine the activated yeast mixture, eggs, and melted butter into the flour mixture, stirring well until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it. Let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Shape the donuts: Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness and cut out circles using a biscuit cutter.
- Fill half of the circles with a small spoonful of jam, topping with the remaining circles and sealing the edges well.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the donuts for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Drain the donuts on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Make-ahead tips: Prepare the dough the night before and let it rise in the fridge overnight. Consider using an air fryer for a lighter cooking method.
