Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring until it reaches the soft ball stage (around 240°F).
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and food coloring if desired.
  5. Pour the mixture onto a greased surface and let it cool slightly.
  6. Once cool enough to handle, begin pulling the taffy until it becomes light in color and fluffy.
  7. Form the taffy into long ropes and cut into bite-sized pieces.
  8. Wrap each piece in wax paper to keep them fresh.
