The crispy, golden-brown hashbrowns provide a satisfying crunch, while the creamy sausage gravy envelops each bite in rich, savory goodness, creating a delightful contrast of textures and flavors that will warm your soul.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Hashbrown Layer:
    • 30 oz frozen hashbrowns, thawed
    • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
    • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
    • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • For the Gravy:
    • 1 lb breakfast sausage
    • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • 4 cups milk
    • 1 tsp garlic powder
    • 1 tsp onion powder
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Biscuit Topping:
    • 2 cans refrigerated biscuit dough

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the thawed hashbrowns, melted butter, cheddar cheese, and green onions. Mix well.
  3. Spread the hashbrown mixture evenly in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  5. Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir for 1 minute to create a roux.
  6. Gradually whisk in the milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Pour the sausage gravy over the hashbrown layer in the baking dish.
  8. Open the biscuit dough and cut each biscuit into quarters. Scatter the biscuit pieces over the gravy.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
