Ingredients

Scale
  • Cake:
    • 1 box chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
    • 3 large eggs
    • 1 cup water
    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • Caramel Filling:
    • 1 cup caramel sauce
    • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • Frosting:
    • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 3 cups powdered sugar
    • 1/3 cup milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Garnish:
    • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
    • 1/4 cup caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil. Mix until smooth.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  4. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.
  5. Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the top of the cake, about 1 inch apart.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the caramel sauce and sweetened condensed milk, then pour it evenly over the cake, allowing it to seep into the holes.
  7. Let the cake cool completely, then prepare the frosting by beating together cocoa powder, softened butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  8. Spread the chocolate frosting over the cooled cake and top with chocolate chips and a drizzle of caramel sauce.
