Description

Delightfully crispy stacks of ham and cheese wrapped in puff pastry, perfect for appetizers or snacks.


Ingredients

  • 1 package (approximately 17.3 ounces) frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 8 slices of ham
  • 8 slices of cheese (Swiss, Gruyere, or Cheddar recommended)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Fresh herbs (such as thyme or rosemary) for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Cut each sheet into four equal squares to yield a total of eight squares.
  4. Whisk together the beaten egg and 1 tablespoon of milk in a small bowl.
  5. Place a slice of ham on each square of puff pastry.
  6. Add a slice of cheese atop the ham, seasoning lightly with salt and pepper.
  7. Layer another square of puff pastry over each stack and gently press the edges to seal.
  8. Crimp the edges with a fork for a secure seal and aesthetic finish.
  9. Brush the top of each stack generously with the egg wash.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  11. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

These stacks can be made ahead and refrigerated or frozen. Reheat for a crispy finish.
