- 1 package (approximately 17.3 ounces) frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
- 8 slices of ham
- 8 slices of cheese (Swiss, Gruyere, or Cheddar recommended)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: Fresh herbs (such as thyme or rosemary) for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut each sheet into four equal squares to yield a total of eight squares.
- Whisk together the beaten egg and 1 tablespoon of milk in a small bowl.
- Place a slice of ham on each square of puff pastry.
- Add a slice of cheese atop the ham, seasoning lightly with salt and pepper.
- Layer another square of puff pastry over each stack and gently press the edges to seal.
- Crimp the edges with a fork for a secure seal and aesthetic finish.
- Brush the top of each stack generously with the egg wash.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
These stacks can be made ahead and refrigerated or frozen. Reheat for a crispy finish.
