Description

A hearty and comforting Christmas Eve Lasagna with layers of rich meats, creamy cheeses, and tangy marinara, perfect for festive gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the noodles according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  3. Brown the ground beef and Italian sausage in a large skillet over medium heat; drain excess fat.
  4. Mix the ricotta cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in a separate bowl until smooth.
  5. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  6. Layer three noodles over the sauce.
  7. Add half of the ricotta filling over the noodles.
  8. Follow with half of the meat mixture.
  9. Sprinkle a third of the mozzarella cheese on top.
  10. Repeat the layers with more noodles, the remaining ricotta mixture, the meat mixture, and another third of mozzarella.
  11. Finish with the final three noodles, the remaining marinara sauce, and the rest of the mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle Parmesan on top.
  12. Bake covered with foil for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  13. Rest the lasagna for a few minutes before slicing; garnish with fresh basil if desired.

Notes

This lasagna can be prepared a day in advance and baked the next day for convenience. Use fresh herbs for enhanced flavor.
