- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 3⁄4 cups sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup sugar (for the swirl)
- 1/3 cup milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for the swirl)
- 1 cup heavy cream (for the ganache)
- 1 cup chocolate chips (for the ganache)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your cake pan by greasing and flouring it thoroughly.
- Mix the dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream the butter and sugar in another bowl until light and fluffy, adding eggs one at a time and incorporating vanilla.
- Combine the mixtures by gradually adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk, alternating and mixing until just combined.
- Prepare the chocolate swirl by blending cocoa powder, sugar, milk, and melted butter until smooth.
- Layer the batters: In the prepared pan, pour half the batter, drizzle with the chocolate mixture, and top with remaining batter. Swirl with a knife.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool.
- Make the ganache by heating heavy cream and pouring it over chocolate chips, stirring until smooth.
- Finish the cake by pouring ganache over the cooled cake and letting it set before slicing.
Notes
For a richer flavor, consider using dark cocoa powder or additional chocolate in the swirl.
