Description

A sumptuous chocolate cake with a heavenly swirl of chocolate and a luxurious ganache topping, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 3⁄4 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar (for the swirl)
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for the swirl)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for the ganache)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (for the ganache)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your cake pan by greasing and flouring it thoroughly.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar in another bowl until light and fluffy, adding eggs one at a time and incorporating vanilla.
  4. Combine the mixtures by gradually adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk, alternating and mixing until just combined.
  5. Prepare the chocolate swirl by blending cocoa powder, sugar, milk, and melted butter until smooth.
  6. Layer the batters: In the prepared pan, pour half the batter, drizzle with the chocolate mixture, and top with remaining batter. Swirl with a knife.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool.
  8. Make the ganache by heating heavy cream and pouring it over chocolate chips, stirring until smooth.
  9. Finish the cake by pouring ganache over the cooled cake and letting it set before slicing.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider using dark cocoa powder or additional chocolate in the swirl.
