- 1 large baguette or Italian loaf, cut into 2-inch cubes
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 pound ground beef, Italian sausage, or a plant-based alternative
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 24 ounces marinara sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and salt. Toss the bread cubes until well coated.
- Heat a 12-inch cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Add the ground meat and diced onion. Cook until browned and onion is soft, about 5-6 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in minced garlic, marinara sauce, oregano, black pepper, and salt. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and grated Parmesan cheese until smooth.
- Remove half of the meat sauce from the skillet and set aside.
- Layer half of the garlic bread cubes over the remaining meat sauce. Spoon half of the ricotta mixture over the bread cubes and sprinkle with a cup of mozzarella cheese.
- Spoon the reserved meat sauce over the cheese layer, add the remaining garlic bread cubes, remaining ricotta mixture, and top with the rest of the mozzarella cheese.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with extra parsley.
