- 2 cups light brown sugar, packed
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk or 2% milk
- 2/3 cup vegetable oil
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated white sugar
- 1 large egg (for filling)
- 1/4 cup caramel sauce
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 1-pound loaf pans.
- Combine dry ingredients in a medium bowl: brown sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Mix wet ingredients in a large bowl or stand mixer: eggs, milk, and vegetable oil.
- Combine the mixtures by gradually adding dry to wet ingredients, stirring gently.
- Layer half of the batter in the prepared loaf pans.
- Prepare the cream cheese filling by beating together cream cheese, granulated sugar, and egg until smooth.
- Fill the pans by spooning the cream cheese mixture down the center of each batter layer.
- Top with the remaining batter and drizzle caramel sauce, swirling it gently.
- Bake for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean.
- Cool the loaves in pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto a wire rack.
Notes
For make-ahead tips, prepare the batter a day in advance. This recipe can also be adapted for gluten-free diets using a gluten-free flour blend.
