Description

A sweet and comforting side dish featuring velvety yams coated in a buttery, caramelized glaze enhanced with warm cinnamon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium yams (sweet potatoes)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C), filling your kitchen with anticipation.
  2. Peel and slice the yams into 1/2 inch thick rounds.
  3. Melt the butter in a large bowl and mix in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Add the sliced yams to the bowl and toss until they’re thoroughly coated in the buttery mixture.
  5. Arrange the yams in a baking dish and pour the remaining butter mixture over the top.
  6. Drizzle the water around the edges of the yams.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes undisturbed.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes, basting occasionally with the syrupy glaze.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Make-ahead: Prepare the yams up to a day in advance and store them in the fridge. Baste halfway through cooking for even caramelization.
