- 2 cups butternut squash, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced (preferably Granny Smith)
- Dairy:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- Seasonings:
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- Others:
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the butternut squash and apple slices with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, mix the heavy cream and half of the Gruyère cheese.
- Layer half of the squash and apple mixture in a greased baking dish.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the first layer.
- Repeat with the remaining squash and apple mixture and cream mixture.
- Top with breadcrumbs and the remaining Gruyère cheese, then drizzle with melted butter.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the squash is tender when pierced with a fork.
