  • Vegetables:
    • 2 cups butternut squash, peeled and thinly sliced
    • 2 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced (preferably Granny Smith)
  • Dairy:
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • Seasonings:
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Others:
    • 1 cup breadcrumbs
    • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the butternut squash and apple slices with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the heavy cream and half of the Gruyère cheese.
  4. Layer half of the squash and apple mixture in a greased baking dish.
  5. Pour half of the cream mixture over the first layer.
  6. Repeat with the remaining squash and apple mixture and cream mixture.
  7. Top with breadcrumbs and the remaining Gruyère cheese, then drizzle with melted butter.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the squash is tender when pierced with a fork.
