- 2 cups sourdough starter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 4 ounces cream cheese, cut into small pieces
Instructions
- Combine ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine sourdough starter, milk, sugar, softened butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Add flour and salt: Gradually sprinkle in flour and salt. Stir until just combined.
- Fold in berries and zest: Gently fold in blueberries and lemon zest.
- Let dough rise: Cover the bowl and let it rest for about 60 minutes.
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare loaf pan: Grease your loaf pan lightly with butter.
- Layer the dough: Pour half of the dough into the loaf pan, adding cream cheese, then covering with the remaining dough.
- Bake: Bake for 45-55 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool and serve: Let the bread cool for 10 minutes in the pan before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
For a richer flavor, prepare the dough the night before and let it rise in the refrigerator. Can substitute other berries or use Greek yogurt instead of cream cheese.
