Ingredients
Scale
- For the Donuts:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- For the Crème Brûlée Topping:
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for caramelizing)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined; do not overmix.
- Fill each donut cavity about 2/3 full with the batter.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the donuts spring back when lightly pressed.
- Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
- For the topping, heat the heavy cream and vanilla extract in a small saucepan over medium heat until just simmering. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Once the donuts are cool, dip the tops in the cream mixture, then sprinkle with granulated sugar.
- Using a kitchen torch, carefully caramelize the sugar until golden and crispy. Allow to cool before serving.
